Intervenção terapêutica ocupacional a paciente vítima de queimadura elétrica na fase aguda / Intervention occupational therapy to patient victim of electrical burn in the acute phase

RESUMO

Introdução: Queimaduras são um problema de saúde significativo no Brasil. Atualmente, existem poucos estudos disponíveis para justificar a importância da reabilitação terapêutica ocupacional em pacientes queimados na fase aguda. O objetivo deste estudo é relatar a importância da terapia ocupacional em pacientes vítimas de queimadura elétrica na fase aguda. Método: Estudo descritivo desenvolvido no Centro de Tratamento de Queimados do Hospital Monsenhor Walfredo Gurgel da cidade de Natal/RN, durante o período de março de 2008 a maio de 2009, com pacientes acometidos de queimadura elétrica na fase aguda. Resultados: Observou-se o predomínio de pessoas do sexo masculino acometidos por queimadura elétrica na fase aguda, idade variável de 4 a 53 anos (57% adultos e 43% crianças). Conclusão: Os pacientes obtiveram evolução satisfatória no âmbito biopsicossocial, sendo notória a eficácia das atividades terapêuticas ocupacionais, com maior participação dos pacientes como sujeito ativo nas atividades de vida diária, favorecendo autonomia e independência funcional.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Burns are a significant health issue in Brazil. However, so far, there are few available studies to justify the importance of occupational therapeutic rehabilitation to burned patients in acute stage. The purpose of this study is to find the importance of occupational therapy to the victims of electrical burn in acute stage. Method: It’s about a qualitative and quantitative study of longitudinal character, in agreement with the extension project developed at the Center of Treatment for Burnt from the Hospital Monsenhor Walfredo Gurgel, in the city of Natal/RN, during the period from March 2008 to May 2009. Results: It was observed the predominance of people from the male sex, with variable age between 4 years old and 53 years-old, so that 57% were adults and 43% were children. Conclusion: By occupational therapeutic intervention the patients obtained satisfactory evolution on the biopsychosocial ambit, being notorious the effectiveness of occupational therapeutic activities, as well as, greater participation from the patients as active subjects of daily activities, favoring autonomy and functional independence.
