Experiências de vida na conversação entre pais e filhos pré-adolescentes / Life experiences in conversation between pre-adolescents and their parents

RESUMO

Esse estudo investiga a conversação sobre experiências envolvendo emoções em 189 famílias de classe média com pré-adolescentes (10 a 13 anos). Um dos genitores e o pré-adolescente responderam um questionário sobre comunicação familiar. Os resultados mostram que os genitores costumam compartilhar experiências, privilegiam resolver problemas ao conversar sobre as experiências negativas dos filhos, e costumam reforçar a autoestima do pré-adolescente quando em experiências positivas. Quanto aos pré-adolescentes, a maioria costuma compartilhar experiências em casa e a idade, mas não o gênero, influencia esse hábito; as emoções positivas os conduzem mais a conversar do que as negativas; e a escolha de uma parceria para conversar é influenciada pela emoção envolvida na experiência e pela idade e gênero do pré-adolescente.

ABSTRACT

This study investigates conversation regarding experiences involving emotions in middle class families with pre-adolescents (10 to 13 years old). One of the parents and the pre-adolescent answered a questionnaire on family communication. The results show parents as commonly sharing their own experiences, favoring problem solutions when talking about their children’s negative experiences, and reinforcing the pre-adolescent’s self-esteem while sharing positive experiences. As to the pre-adolescents, they most usually sharing their own experiences at home, and age but not gender influence this habit; the positive emotions lead them to talk more than the negative; and the partner choice for talking is influenced by the emotion involved in the experience and by the preadolescent’s age and gender.
