RESUMOAs praças públicas de Porto Alegre, na segunda metade da década de 1920, receberam melhorias na sua infraestrutura visando oportunizar a prática esportiva. Como ocorreu a difusão das práticas esportivas nas praças de Porto Alegre no período compreendido entre as décadas de 1920 a 1940 é a questão central deste estudo. A análise documental de fontes impressas revelou que a implantação do Serviço de Recreação Pública (SRP) em 1926, foi fundamental para a ocupação das praças, enquanto espaços destinados às práticas esportivas. Para além da prática foram potencializadas competições esportivas nas praças, resultando na formação dos clubs, nas décadas de 1930 e 1940.

ABSTRACTThe Public squares of Porto Alegre, in the second half of the 1920s, received improvements in infrastructure to create opportunities for practice sports. How did the spread of sports activities in the squares of Porto Alegre in the period between the decades from 1920 to 1940 is the central question of this study. The documentary analysis of printed sources revealed that the implementation of the Public Service Recreation (SRP) in 1926, was essential in the occupation of squares as spaces intended for sports practices. In addition to the practice were potentiated sports competitions in the squares, resulting in the formation of clubs in the decades 1930 and 1940.
