Foram estudadas quatro marcas comerciais TP Orthodontics (TP Orthodontics Inc. LaPorte, Indiana, Estados Unidos), OrthoSource (Califórnia, Estados Unidos), Tecnident (São Carlos, SP, Brasil) e Morelli (Sorocaba, SP, Brasil).
ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to evaluate the staining of clear orthodontic elastomeric modules, through digital photography, when exposed to commonly consumed beverages. We studied four brand names TP Orthodontics (TP Orthodontics Inc. LaPorte, Indiana, USA), OrthoSource (California, USA), Tecnident (São Carlos, SP, Brazil) and Morelli (Sorocaba, SP, Brazil). The methodology consisted of selecting 130 samples from four different manufacturers of orthodontic elastomeric modules, which after being divided into four groups, three of them after stored in containers with purified water, red wine and coffee at a temperature of 37 degrees, one be in considered the control group (purifed water), stored in a dry and dark place. After the periodstipulated for the research, ten modules in each group were removed, washed and dried, identified and kept in a dry and dark place. Then, they were photographed, and after measurement of the color space Ciel *a*b*, were statistically analyzed by Anova and Tukey-Kramer multiple comparisons. The results showed that the factors time, brand, and media exerted influence in ways staining of samples. Regarding the brand, Morelli showed the highest staining followed by Tecnident, OrthoSource and TP Orthodontics. Regarding the time factor, there was a gradual increase in staining over the time in all elastomeric modules...
