Tratamiento de las fracturas inestables del tobillo / Treatment of Unstable Ankle Fractures

RESUMEN

Los pacientes con fracturas inestables del tobillo acuden frecuentemente a los cuerpos de guardia. Se estima que ocurren 122 fracturas en el tobillo cada año por cada 100 000 habitantes. El tratamiento quirúrgico de las que son inestables es inevitable, pues reúnen características imposibles de tratar de manera conservadora. Se han descrito disímiles técnicas quirúrgicas para solucionar estas lesiones y todas constituyen herramientas importantes para el cirujano ortopédico. Por tales razones se realizó esta revisión bibliográfica para abordar el manejo actual de las fracturas inestables del tobillo, basada en el análisis de lo publicado y con el aporte de las experiencias alcanzadas en su tratamiento en el Hospital General Universitario Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima, de Cienfuegos.

ABSTRACT

Patients with unstable ankle fractures frequently attend the emergency rooms. It is estimated that there are 122 ankle fractures per 100 000 people a year. Surgical treatment of those that are unstable is inevitable since they can not be corrected in a conservative way. Several surgical procedures for repair of such lesions have been described and all of them constitute important tools for the orthopedic surgeon. Therefore, we conducted a literature review to discuss the current management of unstable ankle fractures based on the analysis of the published literature and the experiences in the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima University General Hospital of Cienfuegos.
