RESUMO
Investigou-se a relação entre imigração e significados de envelhecimento e ser velho, a partir da experiência de imigrantes idosos judeus de origem polonesa e descendentes. Uso de técnicas etnográficas. A família e a comunidade têm papel central no envelhecimento dos entrevistados. Os significados de velhice e envelhecer apontam visões contraditórias, acionadas conforme as vantagens simbólicas que proporcionam. Os aspectos étnico-imigratórios são importantes no trato do envelhecimento e velhice.
ABSTRACT
We investigated the connection between immigration and meanings of aging and being old from the experience of elderly Jewish immigrants and descendants of Polish origin. Using ethnographic techniques. The family and community have a central role in the aging of respondents. The meanings of old age and aging suggest contradictory visions, triggered as the symbolic advantages they provide. The ethnic-immigration aspects are importants in the treatment of aging and old age.
