Oración en conmemoración al natalicio de Carlos J. Finlay / Prayer in commemoration of the anniversary of the birth of Carlos J. Finlay

RESUMEN

Fundamento Carlos J. Finlay Barrés fue un científico cubano que incursionó en varias ramas de la medicina. Uno de sus aportes a la ciencia fue el descubrimiento del agente transmisor de la fiebre amarilla. Objetivo: realizar un homenaje a la vida y obra de Carlos J. Finlay Barrés y exponerlo en la sesión solemne del Consejo Científico Provincial de Salud de Camagüey. Métodos: se realizó una revisión de documentos históricos en formato digital que se obtuvieron a través de Infomed y de artículos publicados en las bases de datos Pubmed, Medline y Scielo. Conclusiones: se honra a un hombre de ciencias que prestó un gran servicio a la humanidad al contribuir a la erradicación del vómito negro. Honramos también al personal de salud que se encuentra en la lucha contra la enfermedad por el virus del Ébola.

ABSTRACT

Background: Carlos J. Finlay Barrés was a Cuban scientist who made incursions into many fields of medicine. The discovery of the transmitting agent of yellow fever was one his contributions to science. Objective: to pay homage to the life and work of Carlos J. Finlay Barrés and present it in the solemn session of the Provincial Health Scientific Board of Camagüey. Methods: a review of digital historical documents obtained through Infomed and of articles published in the data bases of Pubmed, Medline and Scielo was made. Conclusions: a great man of science, who served the mankind with the eradication of yellow fever, is honored. The medical staff that is fighting Ebola virus disease is also honored.
