ABSTRACT
The study aimed to determine the prevalence of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) in patients of a Primary Health Care Unit (UAPS) in Juiz de Fora, MG, and look for factors related to viral transmission. The work in health education was carried out in a health campaign on hepatitis C; a questionnaire on factors related to HCV transmission and viral detection tests were administered. Although most of the population submitted to testing for hepatitis C had presented at least one risk factor, the prevalence of the infection was nil. This study has enabled a better understanding of the population enrolled at the UAPS, supporting a more effective intervention regarding the transmission of diseases such as viral hepatitis, particularly hepatitis C.
