RESUMO

Objetivo:

Analisar o perfil epidemiológico dos pacientes com amputações de membros superiores atendidos em um centro de reabilitação, na cidade de São Paulo, no período de 1997 a 2012.

Método:

estudo retrospectivo com análise de 75 prontuários para coleta dos dados, que foram analisados descritivamente (porcentagem e média).

Resultados:

Sessenta e um pacientes eram do sexo masculino (81,3%). A média de idade dos pacientes foi de 31 anos e 6 meses. A amputação foi unilateral em 69 pacientes (92%). O nível de amputação mais frequente foi de falanges (28%), seguida pela transradial (25,3%), transumeral (17,3%) e desarticulação de punho (13,3%). A distribuição observada quanto à etiologia da amputação foi 76% traumática; 12% congênita; 5,3% vascular; 1,3% tumoral; 1,3% infecciosa e 4% não referida. Das amputações de etiologia traumática, 66,7% foram relacionadas a acidente de trabalho. Nos pacientes de sexo masculino, 85,2% foram de etiologia traumática. Apenas 15 pacientes foram protetizados (20%). O tempo médio entre a amputação e o exame inicial foi de 9,8 meses. O abandono do tratamento foi de 33,3%.

Conclusões:

A população de pacientes estudada foi composta, em sua maioria, por indivíduos jovens do sexo masculino, com amputação de falanges de etiologia traumática, a maioria relacionada a acidente de trabalho. A maioria dos pacientes não foi protetizada, o tempo de espera para o atendimento inicial no centro de reabilitação foi longo e o abandono do tratamento foi elevado.
ABSTRACT

Objective:

To analyze the epidemiological profile of patients with upper limb amputations treated at a rehabilitation center in the city of São Paulo between 1997 and 2012.

Method:

A retrospective study was conducted with the analysis of 75 medical charts to collect data. The data were analyzed descriptively (percentage and average).

Results:

Sixty one patients were male (81.3%). The mean age was 31 years and 6 months. The amputation was unilateral in 69 patients (92%). The common level of amputation was fingers amputation (28%), followed by transradial amputation (25.3%), transumeral amputation (17,3%) and wrist disarticulation (13.3%). The distribution according to etiology of amputation was 76% traumatic; 12% congenital; 5.3% vascular; 1.3% tumoral; 1.3% infectious and 4% not referred. 66.7% of amputation from traumatic etiology was related to the work accident. In male patients, 85.2% were of traumatic etiology. Only 15 patients were fitted with prothesis (20%). The average time between amputation and the initial examination was 9.8 months. The abandon of treatment was high.

Conclusions:

The studied population of patients was composed, mostly by young males, with amputation of phalanges of traumatic etiology, most of them related to the work accident. Most of the patients were not fitted with prothesis, the waiting time for initial care at the rehab center was long and the abandon of treatment was high.
