RESUMEN

Este artículo surge de una investigación cualitativa con el objetivo de comprender la experiencia de crianza que tienen los padres en el acompañamiento de un niño con Síndrome de Down. Método: enfoque etnográfico con construcción permanente y descripción densa; se obtuvo la información mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas y grupos focales, emergiendo categorías y códigos. Se realizó muestreo teórico por conveniencia del programa de Pediatría Social, Universidad de Antioquia, Medellín-Colombia. Participaron 20 papás que resultan de la saturación de las categorías, con un análisis continuo, ético y responsable; se realizó triangulación de la información. Resultados: para los padres que participaron en esta investigación, el ser papá de un niño con Síndrome de Down los obliga a cambiar su forma de ser, de actuar y de pensar. En un sentido estricto los hace replantear su rol paterno con mayores desafíos, haciéndolos más participantes en la crianza, y por ello se enfrentan a procesos de transformación personal, familiar y social que redundan en la relación padre-hijo. Conclusión: la crianza de un hijo con SD se convierte en una experiencia de vida para el padre, en la cual se siente protagonista. Le da un cambio a su realidad y por tanto al significado de paternar.

ABSTRACT

This article is a qualitative research aimed at understanding the experience of parenting that fathers have in the upbringing of a child with Down's syndrome. Methodology: an ethnographic approach with permanent construction, using semi-structured interviews and focus groups, yielding categories and codes. Theoretical sampling by convenience of the program of Social Pediatrics University of Antioquia, Medellín-Colombia was performed. Twenty parents participated in the study, resulting from the saturation of categories, with a continuous, ethical and responsible analysis. Results: for parents who participated in this research, being dad of a child with Down’s syndrome drives them to change in their way of being, acting and thinking. In a strict sense, this makes them rethink their parental role with greater challenges, with more participation in parenting, and therefore makes them face processes of personal, family and social transformation that result in the parent-child relationship. Conclusion: raising a child with DS becomes a lifetime experience for the father, in which he feels as the main character. It changes their reality and therefore the meaning of fatherhood.
