RESUMEN

Fundamento La diabetes mellitus es uno de los problemas más acuciantes en la actualidad, estrechamente relacionada con la enfermedad periodontal y factores de riesgo involucrados en la misma. Objetivo: Identificar los factores de riesgo relacionados con la enfermedad periodontal en pacientes diabéticos mayores de 30 años del área de Zaza del Medio. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio transversal en el período de abril 2008 a julio 2010. La muestra fue de 52 pacientes. Las variables fueron factores de riesgo directo, comportamentales, en atención de salud; higiene bucal y nivel de información. Se aplicó el índice de higiene bucal revisado de Russell para determinar el grado de higiene bucal. Se utilizó el modelo de recogida de datos; además del método estadístico presentándose en tablas de distribución de frecuencias absolutas y relativas. Resultados: La cobertura fue el factor de riesgo predominante con un 100 %, la mayoría presentó higiene bucal deficiente con un 71,2 % además el nivel de conocimiento sobre salud bucal resultó deficiente. Conclusiones: El estudio reportó la influencia que ejercen los factores de riesgo en el agravamiento de la enfermedad de base, en este caso, la afección periodontal en pacientes diabéticos.

ABSTRACT

Background: The diabetes mellitus is at the present time one of the most pressing problems, closely related with the periodontal illness and factors of risk involved in it. Objective: To identify the factors of risk related with the periodontal illness in diabetic patients older than 30 years old of the area of Zaza del medio Methodology: It was carried out a traverse study in the period from April 2008 to July 2010. The sample belonged to 52 patients. The variables were factors of direct risk, behavioral, in attention of health; buccal hygiene and level of information. The revised index of buccal hygiene of Russell was applied to determine the grade of buccal hygiene. The pattern of collection of data was used; besides the statistical method presented in charts of distribution of absolute and relative frequencies Results: The covering was the factor of predominant risk with a 100 %, most of them presented faulty buccal hygiene with a 71.2 % besides the level of knowledge of buccal health was faulty. Conclusions: The study reported the influence that makes the factors of risk in the worsening of the base illness, in this case, the periodontal affection in diabetic patients.
