Programa educativo para favorecer la adherencia terapéutica en pacientes con tratamiento antirretroviral / Educative program for favoring therapeutic adjustment in patients with antiretroviral treatment

RESUMEN

Fundamento cada año, en el mundo, aumenta las cifras de personas infectadas con sida. Las personas infectadas deben cumplir con el tratamiento antirretroviral y efectuar cambios importantes en su estilo de vida. En investigaciones realizadas se ponen en evidencia las dificultades que presentan los pacientes para adherirse a los tratamientos. Objetivo: evaluar la efectividad de un programa educativo, basado en el Modelo de Creencias de Salud, para favorecer la adherencia terapéutica en los pacientes con tratamiento antirretroviral del municipio Manzanillo. Métodos: se realizó un estudio de intervención, cuasi experimental. El universo quedó constituido por los 71 casos de sida del municipio Manzanillo que tenían indicado el tratamiento con antirretrovirales. La muestra quedó conformada por 25 pacientes. En el proceso investigativo se emplearon el cuestionario Martín-Bayarre-Grau y una encuesta. El procesamiento estadístico se realizó mediante números absolutos y porcientos. Los resultados se presentan resumidos en tablas. Resultados: después que se aplicó el programa, solo el 16 % de los pacientes no se adherían al tratamiento. El 68 % poseía una susceptibilidad percibida alta y el 88 % una severidad percibida alta ante las complicaciones de la infección por VIH/sida. El 100 % percibía muchos beneficios con relación al tratamiento farmacológico, la dieta y la protección y el 72 % pocas barreras. Conclusiones: el programa educativo fue efectivo, pues se incrementó la adherencia terapéutica en los pacientes con tratamiento antirretroviral del municipio Manzanillo.

ABSTRACT

Background: each year, numbers of people infected with AIDS increase in the world. Infected people should follow antiretroviral treatment and make important changes in their lifestyles. Research has shown the difficulties the patients face to adjust to the treatments. Objective: to assess the effectiveness of an educative program based on the model Beliefs in Health, to favor therapeutic adjustment in patients with antiretroviral treatment in Manzanillo municipality. Methods: a quasi-experimental intervention study was conducted. The universe was composed of 71 AIDS sufferers from Manzanillo municipality, who had been indicated for antiretroviral treatment. The sample consisted of 25 patients. Martín-Bayarre-Grau questionnaire and a survey were used during the research process. Statistical processing was carried out with absolute numbers and percentage. Results: after the implementation of the program, only a 16 % of the patients did not adjust to treatment. Sixty-eight percent had high perceived sensitivity and eighty-eight percent had a high perceived severity with complications of AIDS/HIV. One hundred percent found many benefits in relation to pharmacological treatment, diet and protection, whereas seventy-two perceived few barriers. Conclusions: the educative program was effective, since therapeutic adjustment in patients with antiretroviral treatment increased in Manzanillo municipality.
