Anestesiologistas são submetidos a uma série de riscos ocupacionais em decorrência do local de trabalho e atividade profissional, tais como toxicidade de gases anestésicos, exposição ocupacional a sangue e secreções (risco de doenças infecciosas), alergia ao látex e risco de exposição às radiações ionizantes. Outros riscos envolvem a eletrocussão, fogo e explosão. E novos riscos têm sido identificados drogadição e burnout. Não é fácil mensurá-los, podendo os mesmos ter sérias consequências para o anestesiologista. A prevenção desses riscos inclui reconhecimento precoce da situação pelos profissionais da equipe, melhora nas condições de trabalho e no reconhecimento profissional...
