Enfrentamento da condição crônica na infância pelo cuidador familiar: pesquisa qualitativa / Coping with chronic condition in childhood by family caregivers: a qualitative research

RESUMO

Objetivou-se apreender as estratégias utilizadas pelo cuidador familiar no enfrentamento da condição crônica na infância. Realizou-se pesquisa qualitativa, na clínica pediátrica de um hospital público de João Pessoa. Os dados foram coletados por meio da entrevista semi estruturada no primeiro trimestre de 2010. A análise seguiu os critérios da interpretação temática. Os resultados apontaram que os cuidadores familiares utilizaram como estratégias em alguns momentos a fuga do diálogo e das problemáticas provenientes deste; em outros buscaram conhecimento e a comunicação com a criança tentando conscientizá-la sobre sua condição preparando-a para o autocuidado; a religiosidade para aceitarem a condição da criança. Identificou-se que o suporte social encontra-se fragilizado, concentrando o cuidado na figura do cuidador principal. Conhecer as estratégias de enfrentamento utilizadas pelas famílias, suas crenças e conflitos favorece o planejamento de ações específicas em saúde, evitando processos adaptativos frágeis.

ABSTRACT

The objective was to understand the strategies used by caregivers in coping with the chronic condition in childhood. We conducted a qualitative research in a pediatric unit of a public hospital in João Pessoa. Data were collected through semi-structured interview in the first quarter of 2010. The analysis followed the criteria of thematic interpretation. The results showed that caregivers used strategies such as escape of dialogue and issues arising from the illness, the quest for knowledge and communication with the child trying to educate them about their condition and prepare them for self-care, the pursuit of religiosity as help to cope and accept the child's condition. It was identified that social support is undermined, concentrating care in the figure of the main caregiver. Understand the coping strategies used by families, their beliefs and conflicts favors planning of specific actions in health, avoiding fragile adaptive processes.
