ABSTRACT
Electron-irradiated catgut possesses greater tensile strength than heat-sterilized catgut. The safety margin of irradiated catgut is ten times that of heat-sterilized catgut. Sterilization by irradiation is accomplished in sealed containers, thus eliminating the danger of recontamination.
