ENT Manifestations in Gastro - Esophageal Reflux Disease.

ABSTRACT

Background:

Gastro - esophageal reflux disease is a common problem in medical practice. There is increasing evidence that GERD causes laryngeal signs and symptoms.

AIM:

To identify and study the laryngeal manifestations in symptomatic patients with GERD.

Methods:

A prospective study was conducted in about 60 patients with GERD in a tertiary care medical college hospital for a period of one year.

Results:

The study was statistically evaluated using chi square test and there was strong statistical significance for the laryngeal manifestations in GERD.

Conclusion:

The incidence of laryngeal manifestations of GERD in our study was 68%, the common symptom being hoarseness and the common sign being interarytenoid eythema.
