A study of meconium staining and meconium aspiration syndrome in a maternity hospital.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:

To determine the incidence of meconiumstaining and meconium aspiration syndrome in a maternity hospital in Colombo and to evolve a suitable protocol for management.

DESIGN:

A prospective study of 366 meconium stained babies delivered during 1988.

SETTING:

Castle Street Hospital for Women, Colombo.

OUTCOME:

113 babies developed the 'meconium aspiration syndrome' and 16 of them died.
