ABSTRACT
Hyperkeratosis of the nipple and areola (HNA) is a rare benign condition. Clinically the typical lesions are characterized by diffuse verrucous thickening and brownish discoloration of the nipple or areola (or both). Histopathologic examination shows an acanthotic and papillomatous epidermis with hyperkeratosis. Levy-Franckel classified this condition into three categories HNA as an extension of an epidermal nevus, HNA associated with ichthyosis, and an isolated nevoid form. The third type is usually bilateral and predominant among women in the second and third decade of life. We report an unusual clinical manifestation of nevoid HNA, on the right nipple and areola of a 33-year-old woman, in which her skin lesion was unilateral and confined to the superomedial aspect of right nipple and areola.
