ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND:

This study was designed to compare the measured values between the measured EEG-entropy and BIS monitor values during general anesthesia for cesarean section.

METHODS:

Fourteen patients who were to undergo cesarean section were randomly selected for this study. After induction of anesthesia, desflurane was administered to achieve a steady-state end-tidal concentration of 3 vol%. The state entropy (SE), the response entropy (RE), the BIS and hemodynamic variables were collected at various time points.

RESULTS:

During the induction period, the SE, RE and BIS values were slightly different. However, these indices were not significantly different during the maintenance period. The SE and RE values correlated with the BIS value during general anesthesia for cesarean section.

CONCLUSIONS:

The changes in the SE and RE values followed a pattern that was similar to the BIS values during general anesthesia for cesarean section.
