Results:

A factor analysis was conducted, and the following two factors "praise for individuals" (α=.93) and "praise for behaviors" (α=.89), were extracted. The effects on students' learning motivation were examined, and the results suggest that nursing students with much experience of being praised for their behaviors were spontaneously motivated to learn, and their extrinsic motivation was low.

Discussion:

The experience of being praised effectively motivates nursing students to learn. To help students become spontaneously motivated to learn, it is necessary to assess students with more emphasis on their behaviors.
