Clinical Observation of Acupuncture Therapy for Postherpetic Neuralgia / 针灸推拿医学(英文版)

ABSTRACT

Objective:

To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture therapy for postherpetic neuralgia in the elders.

Methods:

Twenty-four cases of postherpetic neuralgia were randomized into two groups, an acupuncture group in which 12 cases were treated by acupuncture at Jiaji (Ex-B 2) on the diseased side, and a medication group in which 12 cases were treated by oral obtundent and intramuscular injection of neurotrophic drugs.

Results:

After four-week treatments, the total effective rate was 91.6% in the acupuncture group and 83.3% in the medication group.

Conclusion:

Acupuncture can significantly relieve postherpetic neuralgia, with better effects than medication.
