ABSTRACT
Nerve fiber bundle index(NFBI) is a new index which detects visual field depression in 21 nerve fiber bundle zones, reflecting the topographical arrangement of visual field defects. We applied this index to 39 eyes with normal visual field and 131 eyes with early glau-comatous field defect(mean defect AUC(Area Under the Curve) values of ROC(Receiver Operating Characteristics) curve. The mean of NFBI is 1.03 +/- 0.05 in normal group and 1.07 +/- 0.14 in early glaucoma group. The AUC values of ROC curves for the separation of glaucomatous from healthy eyes was 0.620 for NFBI and 0.900 for MD. We concluded from our results that the NFBI is less sensitive than MD in the detection of early glaucomatous field defect.
