ABSTRACT
In order to study the pathogenesis of simple obesity in relation to genetic and environmental factors,I,202 primary re-latives of 200 cases of simple obesity and 939 primary relatives of 200 normal controls were investigated. The results were as follows The incidence of obesity is higher in the parents and siblings of obese subjects than that in the normals. The hereditary degree is 83.1% in these patients with simple obesity. Asignificant difference of the incidence of obesity was found between the normal controls (11.7%) and the primary relatives of obese cases (34.4%). The latter is close to the square root of the former and is much less than that of the monofactorial inheritance. Therefore, genetic factors and multifactorial inheritance appear to play a role in the pathogenesis of obesity.
