ABSTRACT
ve To explore the health effects of the application of colored glass on human health. Methods The factors of indoor environment including the intensity of ultraviolet rays, illumination and temperature, were monitored, and the contents of calcium and phosphorous, the activity of alkaline phosphatase in serum of population working in the rooms decorated with blue glass, dark brown glass and common plate glass respectively were deter-mined respectively. Results Significantly lower levels of calcium and phosphorous in serum, higher activity of alka-line phosphatase in serum were observed in population working in environment decorated with colored glass compared with those in population working in environment decorated with common plate glass. The regression equation revealed that the contents of calcium and phosphorous in serum of population both negatively correlated with the degree of colors of the glass used for decoration of the environment where the waiters and waitress worked. Conclusion Long term living or working in rooms decorated with colored glass might affect the normal contents of calcium and phos-phorous in serum and normal activity of alkaline phosphatase in serum of population in cold area of North China, and might impair human health in a certain degree.
