ABSTRACT

Objective:

To detect the role of hypoxia in the regulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP 2) in oral squamous cell carcinoma cell lines.

Methods:

Oral squamous cell carcinoma TSCCa and TNM cells were treated by hypoxia at ?=1% of oxygen for 4~12 h. VEGF and MMP 2 in the cells were quantitatively determined by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The mRNA expression of VEGF and MMP 2 in the two cell lines was evaluated by semi quantitative RT PCR.

Results:

In both cell lines VEGF and MMP 2 were increased after 4 hour hypoxia treatment (P
