CT diagnosis of fat embolism syndrome in the chest(A report of 5 cases) / 重庆医科大学学报

ABSTRACT

Objective:

To evaluate the diagnosis of fat embolism syndrome(FES)imagings in the chest with Spiral CT.

Methods:

To analyze 5 cases FES which had been proved by clinical diagnosis,all had received Spiral CT scanning,among which 3 cases had X-ray chest plain films done.

Results:

Chest CT imagings showed bilateral multiple patchy and ground-glass opacity imagings in 3 cases,diffuse 2 cases,pleural effusion in 2cases.X-ray chest plain films showed the lung markings increased in 2 cases,normal in 1 case.

Conclusion:

Bilateral pulmonary diffuse multiple-patchy or "snowstorm" changes in the chest were the typical CT imagings after the multiple-bone fractures complicated by FES.It can provide evidence directly for FES with Spiral CT,earlier diagnosis of FES in the chest scanning can help clinical therapy and evaluate prognosis.
