ABSTRACT
Objective: To study the effect of Anoectochilus roxburghii on the oxidation of lipoprotein. Methods: The effects of Anoectochilus roxburghii on low density lipoprotein(LDL) oxidative modification were assessed by the formation of conjugated dienes, thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance(TBARS) and the relative electrophoretic migration. Results: The addition of Anoectochilus roxburghii(1 ?l/ml) to the reaction mixture prolonged the lag phase by 1.5 times [from(8.8?0.4)min to(13.0?0.8)min].Anoectochilus roxburghii reduced LDL oxidative susceptibility in a dose dependent manner. In addition,Anoectochilus roxburghii resulted in a significant, dose dependent, reduction of TBARS contents and the decrease in LDL electrophoretic migration as compared to the control. Conclusion: These results indicated that Anoectochilus roxburghii has effective antioxidative capacity by reducing oxidative susceptibility and peroxidation degree of LDL.
