ABSTRACT
CD44 is a trans-membrane glycoprotein widely expressed on many kinds of cell from epithelial, mesenchymal, hematopoietic and mesodermal tissues. It was originally identified as a lymphocyte homing molecule and found to play an important role in physiological and pathological processes such as hematopoiesis, immune response(lymphocyte activation and homing),development, wound healing, inflammation and tumor migration. This review outlines the structure and functions of CD44 especially it's functions in cancer development.
