ABSTRACT
The research was carried out on 108 stroke patients, 108 healthy control subjects matched in age and gender at the Hue Central Hospital in 2004.

Results:

Increasing the mean level of homocystein in blood is new risk factor of stroke. It’s maybe an independent risk factor or combining with other risk factors of stroke (especially hypertension). The rate of hyperhomocysteinemia is higher in patient group than in control group. There were statistically significant association between the mean blood homocystein level with amount risk factors of stroke (age, smoking, blood pressure, uremia, creatininemia, HCT, platelet). Especially, the mean homocystein level in blood had a negative correlation with Glasgow scores. Quantifying the homocystein level in blood of stroke patients can predict the severity of conscious impairment
