Development and validation of Cancer Patient Self-management Assessment Scale / 中华护理杂志

ABSTRACT
Objective To develop an instrument for measuring self-management in Chinese cancer patients and to test its reliability and validity.Methods Based on Bandura's social cognitive theory,self-efficacy theory and self-determination theory,with three tasks and six skills of self-management as framework,combining interview results of 20 cancer patients,item pool of Cancer Patient Self-management Assessment Scale was established.The items were selected by Delphi technique and pilot survey,and the provisional version scale was formed.Totally 300 cancer patients were selected for investigation to test the reliability and validity.Results Cancer Patient Self-management Assessment Scale consisted of 44 items.The total scale's Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.959,split-half reliability coefficient was 0.932,2-week test-retest reliability was 0.461.Exploratory factor analysis extracted six common factors,and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 61.090%;the content validity index(S-CVI) of the total scale was 0.900.Conclusion The developed Cancer Patient Self-management Assessment Scale has good reliability and validity,which can be used as a tool to measure self-management in Chinese cancer patients.
