ABSTRACT
Objective To investigate the current status of bowel preparation for outpatient colonoscopy and iden-tify the influencing factors. Methods From July to October 2016,380 outpatients underwent colonoscopy at the endoscopy unit of a tertiary hospital of Hebei Province were investigated, including general information, bowel prepa-ration information and score of Boston bowel preparation scale. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with poor bowel preparation. Results A total of 17.1% of bowel preparations were inadequate. Logistic regression analysis showed, drinking polyethylene glycol (PEG) at hospital, absence of bowel activity within 60 minutes from the start of PEG,the characteristics of last stool before colonoscopy was liquid with residue, elapsed time after PEG consumption was more than 5h,defecation frequency after the start of PEG was less than 5 times were the independent risk factors of inadequate bowel preparation. Conclusion According to drinking PEG at hospital, absence of bowel activity within 60 minutes from the start of PEG,liquid with residue of the last stool before colonoscopy, elapsed time after PEG consumption (>5h),defecation frequency after the start of PEG (<5 times),clinical nurses should be cautious, evaluate comprehensively the quality of bowel preparation and give the patients reasonable advice.
