THE THYROGLSSAL DUCT CYST: A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT

thyroglossal duct cyst is an common developmental cyst, which may form any where along the embryonic thyroglossal duct between the foramen ceaceum of the tongue and the thyroid gland. It occurs in young persons, but can develop at any age. It appears clinically as firm cystic midline mass, varying in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters. The swelling generally develops slowly and is asymptomatic, unless it occupies a position high in the tract near the tongue. We tentatively diagnosed this case as thyroglossal duct cyst through the results of cyst-like findings with distinct margin around neck tissue, computerized tomography palpation of 5cm diameter approximately, and a second decade man who had chief complaint of middle neck swelling. Thus, we performed surgical excision under general anesthesia. We confirmed the diagnosis as the thyroglossal duct cyst by histopathologic examination.
