ABSTRACT
Objective To explore the relationships among coping style,personality characteristics and mobile phone addiction tendency among college students.Methods Totally 276 clinical medical students were investigated using Mobile Phone Addiction Tendency Questionnaire(MPATS),Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ)and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ).Results The mean scale score of the total 276 students was 36.56,and 46 students had high mobile phone addiction tendency while 1 42 students had low mobile phone addiction tendency.There were significant differences in negative coping style and personality characteristics among students with different mobile phone addiction tendency(P <0.05).The factors and total scores of mobile phone addiction tendency were positively related to personality characteristics (P <0.05 ).Negative coping style plays an intermediary role between the mobile phone addiction and personality characteristics.The influencing factor Neuroticism(path coefficient =0.486)influenced the mobile phone addiction most, followed by Psychotcism (path coefficient =0.274).Conclusion Coping style plays an important intermediary role between mobile phone addiction and personality characteristics. Colleges and universities should strengthen the psychological health education to students,and rebuild the positive coping style.
