ABSTRACT
Recently, the publication of the new guideline for positive airway pressure(PAP) treatment of obstructive sleep apnea(OSA) in adults by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine(AASM) has caused a great response. Based on the quality of evidence, the balance of clinically significant benefits and harms, patient evaluation and preferences and use of resources, the new guidelines are divided into three types, which were good practice statements, strong recommendations and conditional recommendations. This guideline establishes clinical practice recommendations on OSA diagnosis, patients selection, initiation of PAP treatment, PAP ventilation mode, health education, behavior intervention, as well as follow-up. Unlike drug therapy, the medical insurance policy and management of PAP ventilator in China are different from those of European countries and America, therefore, the implementation of the guidelines should be in line with Chinese national conditions. This paper introduced and interpreted the changes in the new guidelines.
