ABSTRACT
Objective@#To investigate the prevalence of ED in adult men with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).@*METHODS@#We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMbase, WanFang Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) Database for original articles relating the prevalence of ED among male IBD patients in the past 20 years, and performed meta-analysis on the identified studies.@*RESULTS@#A total of 9 eligible studies involving 734 cases of IBD were included, of which the pooled prevalence of ED was 34.4% (95% CI 30.8-38.1). Subgroup analyses showed that the incidence rate of ED was significantly higher in the patients with Crohn's disease than in those with ulcerative colitis (36.3% [95% CI 30.1-42.9] vs 26.8% [95% CI 21.9-32.3], P < 0.05), and in those with active than in those with remissive IBD (47.6% [95% CI 38.3-57.2] vs 26.4% [95% CI 22.0-31.4], P < 0.05). The prevalence of ED was the lowest in the patients with ulcerative colitis after treated by ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (17.2% [95% CI 11.5-24.9]).@*CONCLUSIONS@#IBD is commonly associated with ED in male patients, and the risk of ED is increased in active IBD and decreased in remissive IBD.
