ABSTRACT
Recent studies have shown that, as an important part of tumor microenvironment, nerves play an important role in the occurrence and development of tumor. Perineural invasion (PNI) has become one of the key pathological features of many malignant tumors. Colorectal cancer is characterized by an abundance of autonomic nerve fibers, so the nerve fibers are closely related to the poor prognosis of colorectal cancer patients. However, the underlying mechanism of the interaction between neurogenesis and colorectal cancer has not been clarified, and it is inconclusive whether PNI is due to the active invasion of cancer cells or the active extension of neurogenesis. The process of PNI and neurogenesis is an important part of colorectal cancer research, and the role of neurogenesis in tumor microenvironment is also a research focus. In this paper, the latest research progress on the interaction of neurogenesis with other components of tumor microenvironment in colorectal cancer is reviewed in order to clarify the mechanism of its occurrence and provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer.
