ABSTRACT

Objective:

To study the expression levels of IL (serum interleukin)-17 and IL-6 of patients with CRC (colorectal cancer), and to investigate the correlation between the levels of serum IL-17 and IL-6 and the development of human CRC.

Methods:

The expression levels of serum IL-17 and IL-6 of 56 patients with CRC and 30 healthy volunteers (controls) were detected by ELISA. The potential associations between serum IL-17 and IL-6 levels and the clinicopathological characteristics were analyzed.

Results:

The levels of serum IL-17 and IL-6 of 56 patients with CRC were significantly higher than those of the controls (96.43±21.15 vs 16.88±5.07 ng/L, 139.53±27.84 vs 39.21±7.46 ng/L; P 0.05) but associated with the tumor size, metastasis, Dukes stage and pathological type (P < 0.01).

Conclusion:

The levels of serum IL-17 and IL-6 increase with the development of CRC, which suggests that IL-17 and IL-6 may directly or indirectly contribute to the development and progression of CRC. © 2012 by Tumor.
