ABSTRACT
Objective:
To observe the short-term curative effect of radiofrequency ablation with active electrode cooling in the treatment of hepatocarcinoma. Methods:
Radiofrequency ablation therapy was targeted to 117 tumor bodies of 43 patients with hepatocarcinoma using cooled-tip radiofrequency energy delivery machine (HG-3000). The change of tumor size was observed using CT and type B ultrasonic examination. The level of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), the liver function were recorded and compared with pretreatment. Results:
Radiofrequency ablation therapy significantly inhibited the growth of 117 tumor bodies. The AFP value obviously decreased compared with pretreatment (P<0.05); the CEA value had the tendency to continually increase. The CEA value had significant difference after 3-, 4-, and 5-month therapy compared with pretreatment (P<0.05). The liver function had obvious changes after 1- or 2-week therapy and recovered to the primary value before treatment after 4 to 5 weeks. Conclusion:
The radiofrequency ablation with active electrode cooling may achieve satisfactory efficacy and has little complications.
