ABSTRACT
Tenascin-C(TN-C) is an extracelluar matrix glycoprotein, which is transiently expressed during the early stage of embryonic development and widely involved in cell proliferation and differentiation, tissue repair and so on.TN-C expression is modulated by mechanical stress, multiple signaling pathways and transcription factors.By inducing the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells and mediating infiltration of inflammatory cells, TN-C promotes the onset and development of cardiovascular diseases, and is significantly associated with the activation, risk stratification and disease prognosis. This review summarizes the characteristics of expression pattern of tenascin-C in the development of cardiovascular system, such as heart, aorta, and coronary artery, and its application in the clinical diagnosis, intervention and prognostic prediction of pediatric acute myocarditis, dilated cardiomyopathy, rheumatic heart disease, Marfan syndrome, Kawasaki disease and pulmonary hypertension.
