ABSTRACT
Bronchopulmonary dysplasia(BPD)is one of the most important chronic respiratory complications in premature infants.Due to the lack of effective preventive and therapeutic measures, BPD is a widely concerning problem which affects the short- and long-term outcomes of premature infants. The inflammation play an important role in the occurrence and development of BPD, and the anti-inflammatory action of glucocorticoids has been widely applied in the treatment and prevention of BPD.Antenatal glucocorticoids use can promote fetal lung maturation, and can reduce the incidence of respiratory distress syndrome and BPD.Glucocorticoids were also used to prevent and treat BPD in postnatal period, and no consistent conclusions was gained in different type of corticoids. This article will review the efficacy, safety, timing, and dosage of hydrocortisone in the prevention and treatment of BPD.
