ABSTRACT

Objective:

To investigate the attitudes of government-supported and non-government-supported medical students towards teaching approaches to college English course, and to verify its effectiveness.

Methods:

Questionnaire survey was conducted among 162 students (98 government-supported and 64 non-government-supported medical students). Collected data were analyzed by SPSSAU statistical software. Independent sample t test was used to find out whether there was a significant difference in the English level of the two types of students, their attitudes towards the current teaching approaches and the effectiveness of specific teaching links.

Results:

The English level of government-supported medical students was significantly lower than that of non-government-supported ones; the two types of students had the same attitudes towards the first, second and fourth modules, but different attitudes towards the third and fifth modules. However, significant difference only exists in attitude towards the fifth module. Compared with non-government-supported students, government-supported ones held a more positive attitude towards the role of specific teaching links.

Conclusion:

The current teaching modules are planned to be adjusted according to production-oriented approach, and specific teaching links will be improved or deleted according to the actual needs of the two types of students.
