ABSTRACT

Objective:

To investigate the effect of dexmedetomidine on sedation and hemodynamics in patients with alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS).

Methods:

From January 2019 to January 2020, 140 patients with AWS admitted to the Seventh People's Hospital of Hangzhou were divided into control group and observation group according to the random digital table method, with 70 cases in each group.Diazepam was injected intravenously in the control group, and dexmedetomidine was injected intravenously in the observation group. The changes of Ramsay sedation score and hemodynamics before treatment, 3h and 24h after treatment, alcohol withdrawal status score(CIWA-Ar) and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.

Results:

The Ramsay sedation scores of the observation group at 3h after treatment[(3.43±0.45)points] and 24h after treatment[(4.37±0.41)points] were higher than those of the control group [(2.56±0.36)points and (3.58±0.46)points]( t=12.631, 10.726, all P<0.05). The heart rates in the observation group at 3h and 24h after treatment [(83.24±6.7) times/min, (87.98±5.37) times/min] were higher than those in the control group [(88.29±4.53)times/min and (95.47±3.29)times/min]( t=5.192, 9.951, all P<0.05). The mean arterial pressure (MAP) of the observation group at 3h and 24h after treatment [(72.38±3.10)mmHg, (75.46±2.67)mmHg] were higher than those of the control group [(75.21±2.19)mmHg and (78.63±1.76)mmHg]( t=6.238, 8.294, all P<0.05). The CIWA-Ar score in the observation group at 24h after treatment (19.37±3.10) was lower than that in the control group (26.48±2.76)( t=14.332, P<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group(2.86%) was lower than that in the control group(15.71%)(χ 2=6.869, P<0.05).

Conclusion:

Dexmedetomidine has obvious sedative effect on the patients with AWS, it can improve the hemodynamics of the patients, and has less adverse reactions.
