ABSTRACT
Myocardial dysfunction is an essential complication of sepsis and a significant cause of death in patients with sepsis.Sepsis has been shown to mediate myocardial dysfunction through multiple molecular pathways. With the application of technologies such as 16SrRNA and shotgun sequencing and the in-depth understanding of related pathophysiological mechanisms, it has been discovered that there is a complex interaction between gut microbiota and sepsis. Not only does sepsis change the gut microbiota, but the gut microbiota also widely affects the occurrence and development of sepsis. Some treatment methods based on gut microbiota are also considered to have good application prospects. In addition, intestinal microecology has been proved by a large number of studies to be related to various cardiovascular diseases. However, the current understanding of the mechanism by which the gut microbiota plays a role in sepsis-mediated myocardial dysfunction is still minimal. This article summarizes the pathophysiological mechanisms of sepsis, gut microbiota, and myocardial dysfunction that affect each other, which is helpful to deepen the understanding and thinking of researchers in the related fields.
