ABSTRACT

Objective:

To explore the relationship between the changes of serum components in breast cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and the efficacy of chemotherapy based on Raman spectroscopy.

Methods:

Raman spectra of serum samples from 110 breast cancer patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy and 15 healthy subjects admitted to the Department of Breast and Thyroid Surgery of the Affiliated Tumor Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from Feb. 2013 to Jan. 2020 were detected, and PCA-LDA method was combined to predict the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Results:

Raman spectra of breast cancer patients after neoadjuvant chemotherapy were similar to those of normal breast, with carotenoid peaks (1513 cm -1, 1518 cm -1) . Raman spectra combined with PCA-LDA showed high sensitivity and specificity (80.0%, 71.4%) in evaluating the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer.

Conclusion:

Raman spectroscopy combined with multivariate data analysis can be used as a new method to evaluate the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer and a new strategy to guide subsequent treatment regiments.
