Integración del sistema vestibular en los centros superiores / Integration of the vestibular system in higher centers

RESUMEN

Resumen La literatura generalmente habla sobre la contribución del sistema vestibular para el mantenimiento de la estabilidad y el equilibrio. Sin embargo, muchos estudios han descrito su contribución a una variedad de procesos cognitivos como la capacidad visuoespacial, la atención, la memoria y la autopercepción. Este estudio proporciona una referencia introductoria de la contribución del sistema vestibular en los procesos mencionados, la evaluación e influencia de estos en el riesgo de caídas, así como una solución a esta condición que generalmente ocurre en pacientes con alteraciones del sistema vestibular.

ABSTRACT

The literature usually tells about the contribution of the vestibular system for the maintenance of stability and balance. However, many studies have described its contribution to a variety of cognitive processes such as visuospatial ability, attention, memory and self-perception. This study gives an introductory reference of the contribution of the vestibular system in the aforementioned processes, the evaluation and influence of these on the risk of falls as well as a solution to this condition that usually occurs in patients with alterations of the vestibular system.
