Lo que Lacan denominó sexuación tiene que ver con cómo el cuerpo se sexualiza, teniendo en cuenta que, primero, la sexuación no tiene que ver con la biología del cuerpo, y por lo tanto, tampoco con la distinción sexual que se hace al observarlo, de que se tiene o no se tiene un pene. Segundo, la sexuación tampoco tiene que ver con la identificación, es decir, con los ideales de masculinidad y feminidad que el Otro le provee al sujeto en el tercer tiempo del Edipo, y que le permiten identificarse con dichos ideales los de la masculinidad en el caso de los hombres, y con los de la feminidad, en el caso de las mujeres.
