RESUMEN

El cuidado al niño con fiebre se relaciona con todas las personas que se ocupan de asuntos inherentes a la crianza de niños sanos y enfermos. La frecuencia de la fiebre como signo y síntoma se relaciona con las enfermedades agudas y crónicas que se presentan en la niñez. Lo anterior tiene grandes implicaciones emocionales para los cuidadores y hace necesario develar los significados que construyen ellos alrededor de éste cuidado. Objetivo: Comprender los significados que construyen los cuidadores informales y el personal de salud acerca del cuidado al niño con fiebre Metodología: El estudio se abordó con un enfoque cualitativo y con la tradición investigativa de la teoría fundamentada. Los participantes fueron 22. Se utilizaron, la entrevista en profundidad, la entrevista semiestructurada y además se realizó 90 horas de observación participante. La investigación fue avalada por dos comitésde ética, uno de la Facultad de Enfermería de la Universidad de Antioquia y el otro de la Institución de Salud. Hallazgos "Cuidar con Angustia de un pasado que marca a un presente que inquieta" es la categoría que atraviesa y devela de manera compleja todo el proceso de cuidar al niño con fiebre, en ella convergen las categorías Reconocer la fiebre, Controlar la fiebre, Esperar y Buscar Ayuda. Conclusiones: "Cuidar con Angustia" plasma la carga emocional que representa el cuidado al niño con fiebre, que se inicia desde el momento en que se identifica la fiebre y a la cual se suman las creencias, los significados, los sentimientos y las experiencias previas que poseen los cuidadores informales y el personal de salud. Finalmente, la forma como la angustia influye y define la forma de asumir el cuidado del niño con fiebre.

ABSTRACT

The care of the child with fever is related to all the people who deal with matters inherent to the upbringing of healthy and sick children. The frequency of fever as a sign and symptom is related to acute and chronic diseases that occur in childhood. This has great emotional implications for caregivers and makes it necessary to reveal the meanings that they build around this care. Objective: Understand the meanings that informal caregivers and health personnel build about caring for children with fever. Methodology: The study was approached with a qualitative way and with the investigative tradition of grounded theory. The participants were 22. The in-depth interview, the semi-structured interview and 90-hour participant observation were used. The research was supported by two ethics committees, one from the Faculty of nursing of the University of Antioquia and the other from the Health Institution. Findings: "Caring with Anguish from a past that marks a disturbing present" is the category that goes through and reveals in a complex way the whole process of caring for the child with fever, in which the categories converge Recognize fever, Control the Fever, Wait and Seek Help. Conclusions: "Caring for Anguish" expresses the emotional burden of caring for a child with fever, which starts from the moment the fever is identified and to which the beliefs, meanings, feelings and previous experiences that are added they have informal caregivers and health personnel.
