PerFixTM light plug e PHS no reparo das hérnias inguinais: experiência inicial no sul do Brasil / PerFixTM light plug and proleneTM hernia system extended for repairing inguinal hernias: initial experience in south Brazil

RESUMO

Introdução: O reparo cirúrgico das hérnias inguinais é um dos procedimentos mais realizados no mundo ocidental. O impacto econô- mico em saúde pública é alto. Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a utilização da tela PerFixTM Light Plug e seus possíveis benefícios em relação à diminuição de tempo cirúrgico, diminuição de dor aguda pós-operatória e qualidade de vida quando utilizada na cirurgia de hérnia inguinal, comparado aos efeitos do dispositivo bilaminar. Métodos: Cinquenta e oito pacientes foram incluídos, operados e avaliados prospectivamente entre janeiro e agosto de 2012. Vinte e nove pacientes foram operados usando PerFixTM Light Plug e vinte e nove utilizando o ProleneTM Hernia System Extended. Os dados foram coletados em questionários padronizados pelo grupo de estudo. Os dados intraoperatórios foram coletados pelo cirurgião no momento operatório. Quaisquer complicações também foram registradas. Resultados: Não houve diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os grupos em relação à dor pós-operatória e ao retorno às atividades diárias. A técnica utilizando o PerFixTM Light Plug demonstrou ser realizada com tempo cirúrgico estatisticamente reduzido em comparação ao ProleneTM Hernia System Extended. Conclusões: Nesta experiência inicial, ambos PerFixTM Light Plug e o ProleneTM Hernia System Extended são métodos seguros e efetivos para o reparo de hérnias inguinais. Resultados precoces e tardios são comparáveis sem diferença estatisticamente significativa no que diz respeito às taxas de complicação e ao retorno às atividades diárias.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Surgical repair of inguinal hernias is one of the most common procedures in the western world. The economic impact on public health is high. This study aims to analyze the use of PerFixTM Light Plug and its potential benefits concerning reduction of surgical time, decreased postoperative acute pain, and quality of life when used in inguinal hernia surgery, as compared to the effects of a bilaminar device. Methods: Fifty-eight patients were included, operated and evaluated prospectively between January and August 2012. Twenty-nine patients were operated using PerFixTM Light Plug and twenty nine using ProleneTM Hernia System Extended. Data were collected through questionnaires standardized by the study group. Intraoperative data were collected by the surgeon in the operating time. Any complications were also recorded. Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the groups regarding postoperative pain and return to daily activities. The technique using PerFixTM Light Plug proved to be performed in a statistically reduced surgical time as compared to ProleneTM Hernia System Extended. Conclusions: In this initial experience, both PerFixTM Light Plug and ProleneTM Hernia System Extended were safe and effective methods for repairing inguinal hernias. Early and late results are comparable, with no statistically significant difference as regards complication rates and return to daily activities.
