Avaliação do conhecimento e de atitudes relacionados à saúde bucal: gestantes dos Centros Municipais de Saúde de Araraquara/SP / Knowledge and attitudes assessment relating to oral health-pregnant women of Municipal Health Center of Araraquara-SP

RESUMO

O objetivo deste estudo consistiu na avaliação do conhecimento das gestantes inscritas nos Centros Municipais de Saúde da cidade de Araraquara - SP, relacionado ao processo saúde-doença bucal assim como as atitudes relacionadas à sua própria saúde bucal e a de filhos anteriores e/ou futuros. Aplicou-se um questionário nas 410 gestantes que estavam inscritas no mês de novembro de 1997. As mesmas tinham entre 14 e 41 anos de idade e eram de nível sócio-econômico-educacional baixos. As questões abordaram o conhecimento e atitudes das gestantes relacionadas à saúde bucal, divididos nos seguintes grupos cuidados com o lactente; dentes decíduos e permanentes; doenças bucais - cárie e doença periodontal; hábitos alimentares; higiene bucal; flúor; visitas ao dentista e saúde bucal na gravidez. Os resultados foram analisados através da distribuição de frequências, sendo possível concluir que os conceitos e atitudes relacionados a saúde bucal, de forma geral, são limitados. Perduram ainda as crenças de que "dentes de leite não dão cárie", que não precisam ser higienizados "porque o bebê só toma leite" e que "a mulher grávida não pode ir ao dentista"; há carência de informações sobre a higiene bucal tanto da mãe como do bebê e os reflexos de tais hábitos no futuro; sobre os benefícios da amamentação natural e da utilização do flúor; sobre os hábitos alimentares deletérios tanto para a mãe como para o bebê e sobre a idade indicada para a primeira visita ao cirurgião-dentista. O interesse demonstrado pelas gestantes, indica que atividades direcionadas a educação em saúde a serem desenvolvidas nesta fase, além de necessárias, teriam uma reação positiva

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge of pregnant women, enrolled in Publica Health Centers in the city of Araraquara-SP, about the oral health-disease process, their oral health practices and of their children or future baby. A questionnaire was applied to all 410 pregnant women who were enrolled in November 1997. Their age ranged from 14 to 41 years-old and they had low socio-economic and educational levels. The questions approached the knowledge and attitudes relating to oral health and they were divided in to these groups care of baby born; deciduous and permanent teeth; diet habits; oral diseases - dental caries and periodontal diseasde; oral hygiene; fluoride; visits to dentist and oral health during pregnancy. The results were analyzed by distribution measures and it was possible to conclude that in general the concepts and attitudes related to oral health were limited. Some beliefs still endure just as "deciduous teeth don't have caries", they don't need to be cleaned "because the baby only drink milk" and "the pregnant women can't go to the dentist"; there is lack of information about oral hygiene for the mother as much as the baby and the repercussion of these habits in the future; about the breast-feeding and the fluoride use benefits; about the feeding harmful habits to mother and baby and the better age to the first visit to dentist. The interest displayed by the pregnant women shows that educative activities addressed to the health educations being developed at this stage would be essential and wold probably have a positive reaction
