RESUMO

A Doença de Alzheimer (DA) é a forma mais comum de demência, sendo caracterizada por comprometimento cognitivo progressivo. Seu diagnóstico clínico é usualmente tardio, quando já ocorre dano neuronal irreversível.1 Novas técnicas de neuroimagem têm permitido o estudo in vivo da patogenia da DA (ressonância nuclear magnética funcional ­ fMRI, tomografia por emissão de pósitrons - PET-CT) representando uma nova esperança para o diagnóstico precoce, prevenção e eventual tratamento desta doença.

ABSTRACT

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia, characterized by progressive cognitive impairment. Clinical diagnosis is usually late, occurring after induction of irreversible neuronal injury. New neuroimaging techniques allow for the in vivo evaluation of AD pathogenesis (functional magnetic resonance imaging ­ fMRI, positron emission tomography-computed tomography - PET-CT) representing a new hope for the early diagnosis, prevention and tentative treatment of this disease.
